United States electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is taking its first concrete steps toward entering the Argentine market, with a 2027 launch in its sights. The company has been registered in Argentina since April, with a local address and a country manager overseeing both Argentina and Uruguay, where Tesla vehicles officially went on sale in July. According to specialized outlets, the automaker’s first priority is to build a network of Superchargers, giving prospective customers a reliable charging experience from day one.

Superchargers are ultra-fast direct-current charging stations designed to recharge an electric vehicle’s battery in minutes rather than hours. The availability of Tesla vehicles in Uruguay could prove to be an important stepping stone toward the company’s arrival in Argentina.

Specialized outlets point to two possible pathways for the cars to enter the local market. US automakers can export up to 10,000 vehicles per year to Argentina — whether gasoline-powered or electric — under a preferential tariff regime that reduces the standard 35% import duty, as part of Argentina’s trade framework with the United States. However, that quota is shared by all brands importing vehicles from North America and is …
