Among the participants is Dr. Stacy Norton, who volunteered for the vaccine trial decades after losing her mother to colon cancer at the age of seven, a tragedy compounded by other family members suffering from similar malignancies at unusually young ages. The experimental treatment is being evaluated for its potential to safeguard both Norton and her children from developing the disease.
