Texas stops issuing permits for Flock cameras along state roads

At the direction of Republican Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has halted the issuance of new permits for Flock cameras and other automated license plate readers along state roads.

The freeze applies specifically to future installations. According to the state's department of transportation, the policy change does not impact the nearly 900 automated license plate readers that have already been installed along state rights-of-way.
