Thailand begins extradition process against Chinese journalist

Thai authorities initiated extradition proceedings on Thursday against Chinese investigative reporter Bai Zhaodong, who is wanted by Beijing. Bai arrived in Thailand in 2024 and has been detained in the country since January 2026.

Bai is officially recognized by the United Nations as a refugee. The ongoing extradition process and his detention were confirmed to AFP by his lawyer and a Thai official.
