SD celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Central American and Caribbean Games

Santo Domingo is hosting the XXV edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2026, an event that coincides with the centenary of the tournament's inception in Mexico in 1926. To mark this historical milestone, the Dominican Sports Museum is featuring a special exhibition. The games have also highlighted local athletic success, including karateka Thalia Terrero securing a gold medal after missing out in previous years.

The games conclude with events such as a closing ceremony at the Arena Banreservas, featuring a performance by cantautor Juan Luis Guerra alongside the Más que vencedores choir, who will perform the "Canto a la Patria." Alongside the major sporting coverage, local media have also highlighted human-interest stories reflecting daily life in the capital during the games, such as traditional fishermen operating along the Malecón.
