Thapathali hospital cuts neonatal deaths by over two-thirds in five years

Over a five-year period, the Thapathali hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, successfully reduced its neonatal mortality rate by more than two-thirds. Deaths dropped from eight down to 2.5 per 1,000 live births.

The decline in newborn mortality was achieved through specific medical and operational interventions. These included increasing the staff of doctors and nurses, upgrading neonatal care facilities, and expanding the utilization of mothers' milk for infants.
