The Danube River's water is dropping so low that World War II ships are emerging

Water levels on the Danube River, the second-longest river in Europe, have dropped significantly due to ongoing drought conditions, exposing the hulks of dozens of World War II warships near Prahovo, Serbia.

The exposed vessels belonged to Nazi Germany's Black Sea fleet and were deliberately scuttled by retreating German forces as they withdrew from Romania. Some of these sunken ships still remain laden with weapons and explosives.

While drawing public attention amidst summer heat conditions, the emergence of the wartime fleet highlights the severity of the low water levels affecting the region's major waterways.
