The Polygamist’s creator says women see themselves reflected in her Netflix hit

Sue Nyathi, a Zimbabwean author, stated that women see themselves reflected in the Netflix adaptation of her debut novel, The Polygamist. The story centers on a married Zimbabwean man and the women he seduces.

Initially, when Nyathi first pitched the manuscript to publishers in 2012, they rejected it under the belief that there was no market for the book. In response to the industry rejection, the author took the initiative to independently fund and produce the work, hiring her own editor, typesetter, and artist to initially publish 500 copies.
