The Prince’s Spur destroys Typwriter field by 14½ lengths under hand ride

IT was as simple as it was spectacular. The Rohan Crichtontrained seven-year-old turned the $1.25-million Typewriter Trophy feature race at Caymanas Park on Sunday, September 27, 2026 into his own private workout, bolting up by 14½ lengths under top weight of 57.0kgs (126 lb). And it was a warning shot to every Graded horse on the compound.

Ridden with supreme confidence by two-time defending champion jockey Raddesh”‘Sneaky Fox” Roman, the seven-year-old Americanbred son of Cairo Prince out of Flying Spur did exactly what you wanted — he set the pace, he controlled it, and he ended it. Breaking cleanly from the off, he quickly assumed command ahead of Mohanlal (Jaheim Anderson), Purosangue (Robert Halledeen) and Unspun (Ian Spence), running the inside rails. Fractions of 23.2 and 45.3 were honest but well within his comfort zone.

Down the backstretch, Roman was motionless — hands down, not even asking. Then, at the five-furlong pole (1,000m), he twitched. In three strides the race was over.

Turning for home, The Prince’s Spur kicked away by five, then 10, then 14½ lengths under nothing more than a hand ride. He passed six furlongs in 1:10.3 and was gone. Roman spent the last furlong looking around for dangers that never came, easing his mount down to the wire.

The final time was 1:30.1 for 7½ furlongs in the Overnight Allowance contest for threeyear- olds and upward. The track record is 1:29.0, set by fellow American-bred Phenomenal Power on July 4 carrying 117 lb. The Prince’s Spur carried 126 lb — nine pounds more — and was eased down a furlong and a half (300m) out from the wire.

The Prince’s Spur arrived from Florida —- where he won a $12,500 claimer at Gulfstream in January — and ran a gallant second behind reigning Horse of the Year Rideallday in the Philip Feanny Gold Cup, a Graded Stakes/ Open Allowance contest. On Sunday, those whispers became a roar. The question now is not if The Prince’s Spur goes to Graded company but when, and whether any horse at Caymanas Park wants to take him on.
