Sunil Malhotra has taken over the role of Apu in The Simpsons, marking the character's return to the series after a nearly decade-long absence. Malhotra, known for his work in The Legend of Korra and The Legend of Vox Machina, debuted in the role during Sunday night's episode.
The character was previously voiced by Hank Azaria, who stepped down from the role following the 2017 documentary The Problem With Apu. The casting change represents the first time the character has appeared in the show since the production moved to discontinue the original portrayal.
