Thousands protest in Madrid over government’s handling of Ceuta migrant crisis

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Madrid on Saturday to protest the Spanish government’s management of a recent migrant influx into the North African territory of Ceuta. Participants accused national officials of failing to adequately protect the country’s borders during the crisis.

Estimates regarding the scale of the protest varied significantly between official and private sources. While the central government’s representative reported a turnout of approximately 20,000 people, event organizers claimed that as many as 180,000 individuals participated in the rally.
