Three Arrested Over Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation

Greek police have arrested three people in Xanthi following an investigation into alleged human trafficking, sexual exploitation and procuring after a foreign woman reported being exploited. Authorities opened the investigation after the woman filed a complaint alleging offences against her sexual freedom. Police initially identified and arrested a foreign national believed to have recruited and transported her illegally into Greece.

According to police, the suspect brought the woman to Greece last week with the intention of sexually exploiting her for financial gain. Investigators allege he arranged for her to work at a business in Xanthi where she was exploited. Police subsequently arrested the business owner and the establishment’s cashier.

Investigators allege the owner provided a specially designated area on the premises between July 24 and July 29 where customers engaged in sexual acts with the woman, while the cashier allegedly collected payments for those services. Authorities have filed charges, as applicable, including human trafficking for sexual exploitation, procuring, attempted rape and violations of Greece’s weapons legislation. Police brought the three suspects before the Xanthi First Instance Public Prosecutor.
