Togo charges two French journalists over incorrect documents, rights group says

Togolese authorities have formally charged two detained French journalists with making "false declarations" regarding their paperwork, according to the press freedom group Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Journalists Gaël Mocaër and Sebastian Perez Pezzani were taken into custody last month while filming a documentary in the northern city of Kara.

Despite the criminal charges brought against them, RSF maintains that the reporters possessed the correct documentation required to legally carry out their work in the country. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding press freedom and the legal treatment of foreign media personnel operating within the region.
