‘Too good to be true’: Kiwi recruited to drive buses in Australia walks away

Brendan Cunningham, a New Zealander recruited to help alleviate a severe shortage of bus drivers in Sydney, Australia, has walked away from the position. Cunningham was part of a targeted recruitment drive from New Zealand designed to counter a significant driver deficit in the Australian city.

The shortage in Sydney had previously peaked with more than 500 vacant positions before dropping to 168 in the month prior to Cunningham's departure. The initiative to recruit workers from across the Tasman Sea was intended to stabilize the local public transport workforce.
