Toronto Public Health investigating legionnaires’ disease outbreak near downtown core

Toronto Public Health is currently investigating an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease located near the downtown core of the city.

The illness is caused by the *Legionella* bacteria, which naturally exists in various water sources. According to health officials, the bacteria can also be found in specific artificial water systems such as cooling towers, hot tubs, sprinklers, humidifiers, and decorative fountains.
