KINGSTON, Jamaica— Chairman of the Trelawny Municipal Corporation Mayor Colin Gager is rejecting claims that the Government of Jamaica is responsible for an eviction exercise which took place in Coopers Pen, Trelawny on Tuesday. Gager claimed in a press release that bloggers associated with the People's National Party have produced content lying about the eviction and attempting to blame the Government for the exercise, which he said was in fact carried out by a private developer who owns the land and had a longstanding court dispute with some residents. Mayor Gager is condemning the lies while urging responsible use of social media and regard for the truth concerning matters of national discourse.

The mayor also noted that the Government and Member of Parliament Tova Hamilton have engaged relevant state agencies in a bid to assist residents who have been dislocated. READ: WATCH: 20 families homeless after early morning demolition in Trelawny
