Tropical depression could form in next few days, NOAA warns

The United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has advised that a tropical depression will likely form as environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development of a tropical wave located about 950 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. The system is expected to move west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours is high at 80 per cent.

A different tropical wave located several hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganised showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are forecast to be generally conducive for some development of this system during the next several days while it moves westward or west-north-westward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours is low at 20 per cent while formation chance through seven days is medium at 40 per cent.

The US National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Cristobal, which formed over the Subtropical Atlantic, is moving quickly away from the Caribbean and toward the east to east-northeast. The current forecast calls for Cristobal to dissipate on Thursday as conditions become increasingly unfavourable.
