Trump administration seeks to restrict internships for international students

The Trump administration has issued a memo targeting universities to seek restrictions on the issuance of certain internship work authorizations for international students. The directive asserts that the Student and Exchange Visitor Program appeared to have violated rules requiring training to form part of an established curriculum.

In response to the administration's actions, some higher education institutions have begun altering their administrative procedures. Notably, universities including the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of California, Berkeley have paused certain applications for work authorizations for international students.
