Trump denies discussing arms sales with Xi, adding 'they'd probably like to buy it'

U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue stated that President Donald Trump asked Chinese President Xi Jinping if he wanted to purchase U.S. weapons. According to the ambassador, Trump raised the prospect of these arms sales to the ascendant geopolitical rival during a meeting last week.

Following the ambassador's remarks, the State Department refuted the claim, pointing out that existing laws prohibit arms sales to China. President Trump has also denied making the offer to the Chinese president.
