During the conversation, Al-Alimi requested U.S. military support and backing for his Saudi-backed government to counter the Houthi forces, which recently captured key areas in a rapid offensive.

According to sources, President Trump did not pledge or commit U.S. forces to aid Yemen against the Houthis, effectively dodging the plea for military assistance. Additional reports indicate that U.S. officials recently met with Houthi representatives in Oman to discuss a ceasefire, and that Trump reportedly called off planned U.S. airstrikes against Houthi targets.
