The Basque Country High Court annuls the Decree on the normalization of the use of Basque in the public sector due to insufficient economic impact assessment

The High Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV), specifically its Third Chamber of the Contentious-Administrative Sala, has annulled Decree 19/2024 of February 22, which regulated the normalization of the use of Basque in the Basque public sector. The ruling was issued following an appeal filed by the political party Vox.

The court based its decision on the finding that the economic memorandum accompanying the decree suffered from insufficiency. This legal defect in the financial planning led the court to invalidate the administrative norm designed to govern language use within public administration bodies in the region.
