The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Emergency Management Department (FEMD) says it has rescued two from a collapsed building in Kubwa. The department’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Nkechi Isa, said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja. Isa said that the trapped ground-floor residents were rescued following a swift response to an 11:38 a.m distress call.

She said that the one-storey residential structure, comprising six blocks of flats located at Kubwa 2/2 by Yellow Page, partially caved in at around 11:30 a.m on Friday. She said that emergency responders safely extracted both victims from the rubble of the building’s collapsed right segment. ”Other tenants were out for the day when the incident occurred, preventing further casualties, though household items and property were destroyed.

“The two rescued victims were immediately rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital, where officials confirmed that they were in stable condition. ”The Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command joined FEMD at the scene to secure the area and investigate the cause of the structural failure,” she said. By Omeiza Ajayi Two residents trapped in the rubble of a collapsed one-storey building at Kubwa 2/2, near Yellow Page, have been successfully rescued and are currently receiving treatment at the Kubwa General Hospital, where they remain in stable condition. Head of Media and Public Relations at the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department FEMD, Nkechi Isa, who confirmed this in a statement said the victims were trapped on the ground floor of the residential property when the right segment of the structure collapsed at approximately 11:30am on Friday. According to Isa, the affected building comprises six blocks of flats, and other occupants of the property were out at the time of the incident, a development that helped limit the number of persons caught up in the collapse.

She said the FEMD received a distress call at 11:38am and swiftly mobilised to the scene to extract the trapped victims. While the two residents were pulled out alive without fatalities, the collapse resulted in significant loss of personal belongings and household items, she added. Isa said the Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command also responded to the incident to secure the area and initiate investigations into the structural failure.
