U.S. House advances Russia sanctions Bill that seeks 100% tariffs on India, others; set for final vote

The U.S. House of Representatives has advanced a Russia sanctions bill that includes a provision for 100 percent tariffs on countries, including India, that maintain certain trade relationships with Russia. The procedural resolution to advance the legislation and a package of other measures was approved by a narrow 214-211 vote.

The unexpected approval caught House Democratic leadership by surprise. Following this procedural step, the sanctions bill is scheduled to come up for a final vote in the House of Representatives on September 16.
