Jordan and the United Arab Emirates have commenced construction on the Aqaba–Shidiya–Maan railway project. Overseen by Jordanian King Abdullah and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled, the transport initiative is designed to link phosphate mining regions to a Red Sea port.

The infrastructure project will be managed by the UAE–Jordan Railway Company. Once operational, the railway is projected to transport approximately 13 million tonnes of phosphate annually.
