A recent study published in Nature Sustainability warns that marine heatwaves—episodes of extreme ocean temperatures—represent a growing threat to human health, moving beyond being viewed solely as an environmental alteration.

Simultaneously, international weather observations indicate that Western Europe is currently experiencing severe droughts and chained summer heatwaves. Experts note that these conditions are occurring even before the temperature increases associated with the El Niño phenomenon fully arrive.

According to the World Meteorological Organization, the influence of El Niño on global temperatures is still pending and is expected to become noticeable starting late in the year.
