A young man who jumped the Melilla fence in 2022 and lost an eye is asking for help identifying a Civil Guard officer.

Zakaria, a young man originally from Mali and a resident of Barcelona, has testified telematically from the Ciutat de la Justícia in L'Hospitalet before the judge instructing the case in Melilla. He is requesting the identification of a Guardia Civil officer following an alleged assault during his attempt to jump the Melilla border fence in 2022, an incident in which he lost an eye.

In a separate security operation in the same region, the National Police and the Guardia Civil prevented 71 migrants from irregularly accessing the Spanish Peninsula from Melilla. The individuals had hidden as stowaways inside fairground attractions and trucks taking advantage of the departure of fair operators after the conclusion of festivities.
