UN report finds widespread sexual violence in Ukraine war, 89% of cases linked to Russia

A United Nations report has documented over 1,000 cases of sexual violence against civilians and prisoners of war in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion through July. The findings describe the acts as widespread and abhorrent, noting that they include instances of gang rape and genital mutilation.

The report attributes 89 percent of the documented cases to Russian forces. While the majority of violations are linked to the Russian military, the report also identifies that Ukrainian authorities were responsible for a smaller number of similar human rights abuses.
