The Bogotá City Council (Concejo de la ciudad) held a debate led by councilman Julián Espinosa of the Green Alliance Party to assess the city's preparedness for a major earthquake. The discussion focused on a hypothetical 7.0 magnitude earthquake along the Fómeque fault.

According to the council's warning, such a seismic event would place more than 13,000 lives at risk in Bogotá. The analysis in the District Council (Cabildo Distrital) centered on evaluating the capital's overall readiness to confront a disaster of this magnitude.
