UNCOOPERATIVE GOVERNANCE: Nelson Mandela Bay opposition accuses coalition of U-turn on R23bn UIFWE write-off

Opposition parties in Nelson Mandela Bay have accused the municipality's ruling coalition of hypocrisy and uncooperative governance following a policy reversal on a massive financial write-off. The coalition was forced to backtrack on writing off R23-billion in unauthorised, irregular, fruitless, and wasteful expenditure (UIFWE).

The reversal occurred after intervention from the National Treasury, which compelled the local administration to abandon the write-off plan. Consequently, political opponents have slammed the ruling coalition for its initial decision and subsequent U-turn.
