Built a century ago, walking tunnels in Los Angeles that were created as safe passageways for schoolchildren have since become dangerous spots attracting squatters, trash and illicit activity. Around 220 pedestrian tunnels were built in the 1920s-1930s when higher traffic from automobiles led to increased accidents involving children and pedestrians.
