Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Uptime Institute, located in the United States, has inked a deal with Iraq’s Nineveh governorate to promote the development of digital infrastructure and enhance the region’s technology industry, adding to a wave of US investment promises made during Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s visit to Washington. The memorandum of agreement, signed during the U.S.-Iraq Business Summit held by the US Chamber of Commerce, intends to assist Nineveh in developing digital infrastructure that meets international standards while also assisting Iraq’s larger efforts to modernize its economy and attract foreign investment. The collaboration aims to strengthen digital infrastructure resilience, transfer technical skills, and cultivate local talent to assist future technological initiatives in the northern governorate.
Nineveh Governor Abdul Qader al-Dakheel said that the cooperation will help establish the groundwork for economic development and position the governorate as a hub for technological investment. Uptime Institute, a New York-based firm that creates worldwide standards and certifications for data centers and digital infrastructure, announced that it would collaborate with Nineveh to boost the region’s digital capabilities and promote the construction of robust, sustainable infrastructure. The arrangement was one of over 50 commercial partnerships revealed during the U.S.-Iraq Business Summit, when American and Iraqi firms disclosed projects spanning energy, aviation, finance, manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure, totaling more than $60 billion.
The digital infrastructure plan represents Iraq’s rising attempts to diversify its economy away from oil by increasing investment in technology, telecommunications, and data infrastructure while producing higher-skilled private-sector employment. As restoration efforts continue, Nineveh actively seeks international investment to repair infrastructure, boost economic development, and position itself as a regional center for technology and creativity, despite the serious destruction of its city Mosul during the battle against Islamic State.
