Uruguay declares a health emergency due to Avian Flu and restricts the movement of birds

The Uruguayan government declared a nationwide sanitary emergency on Friday following the detection of highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza. The virus was identified in backyard poultry located in the department of Colonia. In response to the outbreak, the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries has implemented restrictions on the movement of birds to contain the spread of the disease.
