US declares end of largest recorded cyclosporiasis outbreak

United States federal authorities have declared an end to the largest recorded cyclosporiasis outbreak in the country's history. The nationwide food safety incident involved nearly 13,000 linked cases of the intestinal illness and prompted one of the most substantial food recalls seen in recent years.

Federal investigators traced the source of the outbreak to contaminated lettuce imported from central Mexico. Following the investigation and subsequent recall efforts, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration confirmed that the affected produce has been successfully removed from the commercial market.
