US issues sweeping sanctions against Iranian airlines, foreign businesses

On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced 36 fresh, sweeping sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation sector and nearly a dozen foreign companies doing business with Mahan Air. The actions were issued by the US Treasury Department.

The newly targeted foreign businesses were penalized for conducting operations with Mahan Air, an Iranian airline that had previously faced sanctions due to its connections with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to official statements, these measures are part of an ongoing broad push by the United States to escalate economic pressure on Tehran. The escalation coincides with the Middle East conflict entering its seventh month.
