Usaga criticizes the European Commission for launching the EU-Mercosur agreement with doubts about Brazil

The agricultural sector in Spain has reacted with mixed positions following decisions by the European Commission regarding trade and safety standards involving Brazil and the pending EU-Mercosur trade agreement. Unión de Sectoriales Agrarias de Asturias (Usaga) issued a statement criticizing the European Commission for pushing forward with the provisional application of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement despite ongoing doubts regarding Brazil's adherence to regulatory guarantees.

Simultaneously, the agricultural organization ARAG-ASAJA welcomed the European Commission's decision to suspend meat imports from Brazil. This suspension was enacted because Brazil failed to accredit compliance with existing European standards concerning the use of antimicrobials, a measure ARAG-ASAJA described as positive progress while demanding continued firmness from the European Union.
