South Carolina-born Albert made his Bundesliga debut under Kovač in April last season, replacing Gio Reyna as the youngest American to play in the German top flight at the age of 16 years and 340 days. The now 17-year-old forward, who could have played for France through his father and Germany through his mother, has made just one first-team appearance this term in the DFB Cup first-round win over HEBC Hamburg. He did, however, make his senior international debut for the USA in the September-October window and surpassed former Dortmund man Christian Pulisic as his country’s youngest all-time goalscorer with a strike in the 4-2 win over Chile on 29 September, aged 17 years and 131 days.
