Venezuela and the Dominican Republic announced the "normalization" of their diplomatic relations after a two-year break.

Venezuela and the Dominican Republic have announced the initiation of a gradual process to normalize and restore their diplomatic and consular relations, following a two-year rupture that began in July 2024.

The suspension of ties originally occurred after the government in Santo Domingo refused to recognize the official results of the Venezuelan presidential elections held that year, which Santo Domingo characterized as fraudulent.

According to the Venezuelan government, the two nations have agreed upon a cooperative roadmap to guide the phased restoration of diplomatic and consular communications moving forward.
