Western Europe sets new temperature record as heat waves continue to pummel region

According to the European climate agency Copernicus, Western Europe has established a new average temperature record for the June-July period, surpassing the previous record set in 2022. The record-breaking heat is the result of persistent heat waves pummeling the region.

The extreme heat conditions began in May of this year. These sustained high temperatures have contributed significantly to ongoing environmental crises across the region, including major wildfires and prolonged drought.
