WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — The community of Auldayr in Westmoreland is mourning the death of a resident who was killed by a fallen tree. The woman has been identified as Angela Powell. Details of her age and the exact time of the Tuesday morning incident were not immediately available.

Reports indicate that she was tending to her goats when a tree fell on her. Councillor for the White House Division (People's National Party), Micheal Jackson, knew Powell well and paid tribute to her character. “She had a very vibrant spirit and she always volunteered, keeping the community vibrant and clean.

Any task you call on her to do, she rises to the occasion,” recalled Jackson. The councillor said she will be deeply missed by the community. “She’ll be missed by the community of Auldayr and environs.

Anywhere there is a wake, look for her to be lightening up the place and dancing and bringing smiles to people,” started Jackson. “[She was] always there for her people in the area, with her animals. No matter how things are going bad for her, she always wears that pleasant smile, that infectious laughter.” — Anthony Lewis.
