What CPC Disruptions Reveal About Energy Security, Kazakhstan’s Balanced Foreign Policy

A series of drone attacks targeting the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) marine terminal has disrupted the export of Kazakh oil. On July 30, a tanker loading oil at the facility was struck by drones, resulting in an onboard fire and the immediate suspension of loading operations. This incident follows two earlier drone attacks on the terminal that occurred on July 17 and 19.

The CPC terminal serves as a critical infrastructure point for Kazakhstan, facilitating the export of approximately 80% of the country’s oil production. Following the repeated strikes throughout July, terminal operations have been shut down for one week. These disruptions have raised concerns regarding energy security and the stability of this essential route for Kazakhstan’s global oil supplies.
