Born in Harare, Phuthi moved to England at a young age and progressed through Sheffield Wednesday‘s academy system before signing his first professional contract with the EFL side in 2023. He made his senior debut for the Owls during the 2023/24 campaign and featured in both league and cup competitions before gaining further experience through spells away from Hillsborough.
Capable of operating as a winger, wing-back or full-back, Phuthi spent time with National League South side Eastbourne Borough and Northern Premier League East outfit Cleethorpes Town as he continued his development in senior football. His performances have also been recognised on the international stage, with Phuthi making his senior debut for Zimbabwe in 2024. Whitby manager Lee Bullock moved to secure the youngster’s signature after being impressed by his attitude and ability during pre-season, adding further depth and versatility to his squad ahead of the new campaign.
Phuthi becomes the latest addition to the Seasiders’ ranks as preparations continue for the start of the 2026/27 season, with supporters having already seen glimpses of his pace and attacking qualities during the club’s summer fixtures.
