The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is considering an amendment to its enabling law to position the institution as Ghana’s main corridor for employment opportunities, Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale has announced. Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House today, Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Mr Basintale said the proposed legislative change was part of efforts to strengthen the Agency’s role in addressing youth unemployment and improve its capacity to connect young people to jobs. The YEA was established under the Youth Employment Agency Act, 2015 (Act 887), with a mandate to develop, coordinate, supervise and facilitate employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.

Its regulatory framework was further strengthened by the Youth Employment Agency Regulations, 2016 (L.I. Mr Basintale said the Agency was looking at how its legal framework could be amended to expand its role in the country’s employment system. He described the proposal as part of a broader commitment to make the institution more responsive to the needs and aspirations of young people.

“In this regard, the YEA is considering an amendment of its Act to become Ghana’s only employment corridor into the mainstream,” he said. He stressed that the Agency’s work would continue to focus on creating opportunities and empowering young people to contribute to national development. “Our commitment is to ensure that no young Ghanaian is left behind in our collective pursuit of economic empowerment and national development, because THE YEA IS FOR ALL!” he added.

The announcement comes as the Agency prepares to mark the 20th anniversary of its establishment next month. Mr Basintale said the YEA remained committed to improving its programmes and translating government policies into sustainable employment opportunities for young Ghanaians. The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has recruited 100,628 beneficiaries as of September 30, 2026, representing 75.7% of its annual target of 133,000, Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale has announced.

He said the recruitment figures reflected an expansion in the number of young Ghanaians accessing employment opportunities through the Agency’s various interventions, which are designed to provide temporary employment, practical skills, workplace experience and pathways to economic empowerment. “Since assuming office, we have increased beneficiary recruitment by at least 566.67%,” he said, describing the growth as an expansion in opportunities for young people across the country. “For me, these are not merely statistics on paper.

They represent real people, real livelihoods and real opportunities for young men and women who deserve a fair chance to contribute to the development of our country,” he added. Mr Basintale said the Agency would continue working to improve programme delivery and address implementation gaps as it pursues its employment target. He stressed that its objective was not simply to increase beneficiary numbers but to equip young people with skills and experience that could improve their economic circumstances.
