Yemen's president calls on Yemenis to mobilise

On Friday, Rashid al-Alimi, the president of Yemen's Saudi-backed, internationally recognized government, called on citizens to mobilize and join the armed forces. The announcement included an offer of a future general amnesty for Houthi fighters and affiliates who abandon the group, with the amnesty set to begin on September 26.

The appeal follows an escalation in activities by the Houthi movement in the weeks leading up to the announcement. Al-Alimi, who is based in Riyadh, issued the directive from within the context of the ongoing civil conflict dividing the country between the internationally recognized administration and the Houthi forces.
