President Adama Barrow of The Gambia has called for public calm following violent protests triggered by prolonged electricity shortages. The president addressed the unrest by stating that the nation is not isolated in its struggle, noting that the power crisis currently impacting the country is also affecting other regions across West Africa.

The protests follow a period of persistent electrical instability that has plagued the nation since June. According to local residents, the frequency and duration of these outages have become severe, with some power cuts lasting as long as 48 hours.
