‘Zero tolerance’ for youths with weapons after stand-off at site of fatal bus hub stabbing

Police in Dunedin, New Zealand, have announced a zero-tolerance approach to youths carrying weapons following a tense stand-off at the city's central bus hub. The incident occurred at the same site where a fatal stabbing had previously taken place. During the confrontation, one youth brandished a knife and managed to evade capture, remaining at large.

Authorities subsequently apprehended a 14-year-old boy involved in the same stand-off. Upon searching his backpack, officers discovered a small tomahawk. The confrontation and subsequent weapons discovery have heightened security concerns around the bus hub following the earlier fatal attack.
