Zimbabwe: Mnangagwa Dragged to Constitutional Court, Accused of Packing Senate With Zanu-PF Politicians

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is facing a legal challenge in Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Court regarding his appointment of 10 senators. Two applicants have filed the suit, alleging that the president violated the national Constitution by filling these positions with politicians rather than the independent professionals the law mandates for such appointments.

The case centers on the interpretation of constitutional requirements for the Upper House. The applicants contend that the appointment process was used to pack the Senate with members of the ruling Zanu-PF party, undermining the intended purpose of the appointments. The court is now tasked with determining whether the president's actions align with the legal standards governing these appointments.
