Zoe Kazan on Honoring Steinbeck’s ‘East of Eden’ for Netflix Series While Rethinking Its Characters

Zoe Kazan is adapting John Steinbeck’s classic novel "East of Eden" into a new Netflix series. As the creator of the project, Kazan has focused on honoring the source material while simultaneously rethinking its characters for television.

Key elements of her adaptation include building the narrative around a love story between brothers and revisiting the character of Cathy Ames. Through these creative choices, Kazan aims to update Steinbeck's text for a modern television audience.
