A large tent community offers relief, but many are still waiting for homes

Phoenix has spent millions of dollars in recent years trying to help people experiencing homelessness. One of the city’s biggest projects is a Safe Outdoor Space that provides tents, meals, showers, security and air-conditioned areas for about 300 people who do not have a permanent place to live, The Washington Post reported. Supporters say the site keeps people safer, especially during Arizona’s dangerous summer heat.
