Osun Election: Makinde condemns EFCC account freeze, warns against political use of institutions

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately approach the court to vacate the order freezing the Osun State Government's bank accounts. President Tinubu described the timing of the freeze as deeply embarrassing following the controversy generated by the move.

The EFCC action drew strong condemnations and concerns from prominent political figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and opposition figures such as Peter Obi, who warned against the political use and intimidation of state institutions to influence elections and disrupt governance in opposition-controlled states.

In a related political development, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar challenged President Tinubu regarding the EFCC's climbdown on Osun, further urging the president to direct the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to release former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
