Barriers are being placed to trap debris in the Yaque del Norte River

The Council for the Support of Jarabacoa (Coaja), a group comprised of local business owners and merchants, has launched a pilot program to preserve the Yaque del Norte River. The initiative involves the installation of bio-barriers designed to capture solid waste, with a primary focus on intercepting plastics before they further contaminate the waterway.

This project serves as a proactive measure to address pollution levels in the river. By utilizing these barriers, the organization aims to mitigate the environmental impact of debris accumulation in the Yaque del Norte ecosystem.
